The answer to whether it is right to use AI to generate content on your website can be yes or no, depending on the context and manner in which AI is utilized.

Yes: You can use AI tools to enhance the structure, appearance, and research of content you want to publish on your website or blog. The search giant Google mentioned in one of their blog posts on helpful content that they are not against users utilizing AI tools to enhance their content, especially if the post requires thorough research on a specific topic or subject.

No: Relying solely on AI to generate complete content without any additional input from you, or using it to manipulate search engine rankings through keyword stuffing, is highly prohibited by search engines like Google.

Digging Deeper:

While AI can help humans accomplish tasks faster and more efficiently, it is important to use it in moderation and follow regulations when it comes to content writing. In this part of the article, I will walk you through the process of when to use AI, the best ways to use it, and some negative effects it might have on your website or blog post.

The Positive Impact of Using AI Tools for Content Enhancement

Some Large Language Model (LLM) AI systems are highly effective for content enhancement. Below are some of these beneficial aspects:

Grammar and Spelling Accuracy: AI can quickly correct grammar and spelling mistakes that human writers might overlook. This ensures that your content is free from grammatical errors and uses the correct terminology, providing a polished and professional finish.

Keyword Usage and Content Structuring: AI can effectively place keywords in your content to improve its visibility on search engines. It can also organize the content hierarchically, making it easier for both search engines and visitors to understand your writing.

Speed: AI can generate a full blog post in less than two minutes, a task that would take much longer for a human writer. This efficiency allows for faster content production without sacrificing quality.

Research Capabilities: Trained on vast amounts of information, AI can assist in thorough research on any subject within its capabilities. It can quickly gather relevant information, providing a strong foundation for your content.

These advantages make AI a powerful tool for enhancing and generating content, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and relevance.

Possible Negative Effects of Using AI Tools for Content Generation

While leveraging AI for content enhancement isn't inherently problematic, relying exclusively on AI for content generation can have several drawbacks:

1. Content Duplication/Plagiarism: AI language models (LLMs) are trained on extensive datasets from the internet. Consequently, they might not always produce unique content. Repeated use of these tools can result in similar outputs for different users, potentially leading to duplicated or plagiarized content.

Example: In an experiment, I asked ChatGPT to define SEO in 30 words multiple times. Despite regenerating the response, the answer remained unchanged.

One might think this is because I used the same account, but even using different accounts often yields identical responses. Similarly, Google Gemini provided the same response across different accounts.

Though these tools are highly advanced, they are still being refined, as noted in their terms and conditions. Hence, they can make mistakes and their outputs should be critically evaluated.

2. Credibility Counts: Search engines favor content written by experts.  First-person ("I," "we") builds trust, showing firsthand knowledge. AI writing, while versatile, may lack this.  Imagine impersonal content, all "they" and "it." Will readers see you as the owner? Likely less sharing and ranking.

Limited Lived Experience: While AI excels at processing information, it lacks real-world experience. This can hinder its ability to tackle subjects requiring firsthand knowledge.  Human writers, drawing on their experiences, often use "I" or "we" to convey authority. This can be missing in purely AI-generated content.

Considering these alone can help you understand why you should not depend on these tools for writing.

How I use AI Tool when creating content

I utilize these tools primarily for writing purposes. Here are some ways I employ them effectively, ensuring originality and authority in my content:

1. Research: I leverage these tools to explore existing literature on a topic and identify areas where I can contribute unique insights.

2. Grammar and Spelling: After drafting my content, I utilize these tools to refine grammar and ensure accuracy in spelling.

3. Question Answering: I use these tools to seek answers to specific questions, such as 'What is SEO?' This allows me to incorporate authoritative responses into my work without plagiarizing.

4. Keyword Research: These tools aid me in discovering trending keywords and optimizing their placement within my content, enhancing its visibility and relevance.

By utilizing these tools judiciously, I maintain the integrity and quality of my writing while leveraging their capabilities to enhance my work.

Here's the key: AI is a powerful tool, but it should be something other than your expertise.  Think of it as your research assistant, grammar checker, and SEO consultant all rolled into one.  Use AI to enhance your writing, not replace it. Here are some ways to achieve the best of both worlds:

  • Fuel Your Research: Let AI scour the web for relevant information and data to build a strong foundation for your content.
  • Sharpen Your Grammar: Don't let typos or awkward phrasing tarnish your work. Use AI as a second pair of eyes for language polish.
  • Find Your Keywords: Leverage AI tools to research trending keywords and optimize their placement for better search engine visibility.
  • Inject Your Voice: The final product should always be your own. Use your expertise and personal touch to craft compelling content that resonates with your audience.
