In their recent annual developer conference, which was held in Mountain View, California, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, Google announced the advancement of its AI, Gemini, which has now more capability to do easy tasks for its users right on the Android phones.
Ranging from Circle to Search, which can now help students do any homework, down to a more advanced tool for Clearer descriptions with TalkBack for blind people.
Gemini Nano
Google has also introduced a Scam Detection Alert called Gemini Nano for all Android devices. Initially integrated into Pixel devices, including the Pixel 8 Pro, this feature is set to extend to other Android devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Oppo, and Techno later this year.
Built to listen to conversations, read and access files on the Andriod devices
This lightweight ai model can read messages, listen to conversations during calls, and gain access to the files on your phones to warn you against suspicious activity. For example, you would receive an alert if a “bank representative” asks you to urgently transfer funds, make a payment with a gift card, or, request personal information like card PINs or passwords, which are uncommon bank requests Or warn you against phishing emails or files sent on your inbox.
Thanks to Gemini Nano, @Android will warn you in the middle of a call as soon as it detects suspicious activity, like being asked for your social security number and bank info. Stay tuned for more news in the coming months. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/wtc3rrk0Gc

Data Security Concerns - Are your data safe?
With such access to user data, concerns regarding data privacy are natural. So, how will data be handled by Google? what happens to your data?
According to Google, This protection all happens on-device, so your conversation stays private to you. This means that your conversation will not be sent back to the server but will be private to you only
Because this opt-in feature uses Gemini Nano, the processing happens right on your phone and stays private to you. Learn more → https://t.co/UL84hbwxzl pic.twitter.com/y48tEwpED2

Google might offer users an option to control how their data is handled. Users could choose to allow some level of data collection for better protection or opt out entirely.
Possible data that might be collected by Google.
Though not mentioned yet in the announcement, we have come to a certain conclusion that Goole might still collect some data such as the following:
Aggregated and Anonymized Data: Google might collect anonymized data about suspicious activities detected by Gemini Nano. This anonymized data could be used to improve the model's ability to identify threats in the future.
Can work without internet access.
Because it runs directly on your device, Gemini Nano can even function without an internet connection. This means it can still detect suspicious activity like phone calls or prevent you from clicking on malicious files even when you're offline.
Could Gemini Nano be a spy from Google?
others have objected to it. Some say it is a new style that Google has built to steal personal data from all Android and its userThis is awesome. Some elderly relatives has recently been subjected to scam calls and one even fallen for it. Cost $50. This would have helped.
