The internet is getting better and better as developers are evolving it as simple as possible for beginners especially those who want to learn how to code to be able to do so without any problems.

Back in the day, people who wanted to learn how to code had to go to school or buy it as a course and start learning from a tutor. 

Today although many companies and some individuals still sell their courses, plenty of free coding courses are still available online for everyone who needs them. You don't have to leave the comfort of your home to get it. 

Having a personal computer that can access the Internet smoothly, you are good to go.

In this article, I am going to give you a list of the top companies and individuals' websites that you can learn how to code for free.

1. W3schools

W3Schools is one of the oldest and the top free educational websites for learning to code online.  W3Schools offers courses covering all aspects of web development. Both frontend and backend development.

Through its website, W3schools teaches students all the different functions of code syntax from basic to advanced levels. It also has a code editor called, "try it yourself" which helps individuals to test their coding skills.

Other advanced reference materials are also provided on the website.

Although Wa3schools has plenty of resources that can help beginners learn how to code for free, You can not be certified after your learning on the W3schools platform unless you apply for a paid course. To earn a certificate from them, you will need to pay for a course.

2. Sololearn

Sololearn is another great site to learn how to code. They have both free and paid plans. Learners on free plans can access the basic coding skills on the website and can play around with more than 20 programming languages on the platform.

They also have an application both for Android and iOS to make it easier for you to access from your computer.

The only disadvantage for those on the free plan is that they will not be able to participate fully in most of the to-do tasks. Learners on the free plan also have to see ads.

Sololearn also offers a free certificate after completing a course on its platform.  The certificates are valid and can be used in your resume because they let your potential employer know that you completed a solid course in programming disciplines.

3. Codecademy 

Codecademy is an American online interactive platform that offers free coding. It has about 12 different classes in programming languages. You are open to learning different programming including Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, Ruby, SQL, C++, C#, Swift, and Sass, as well as markup languages HTML and CSS.

With Codecademy you are open to unlimited access to interactive lessons, access to basic coding skills, and access to review their catalog of courses.

Both Pro Lite and Pro include everything in Basic, plus extra content and features like real-world projects, guided paths, and assessments to test your skills.

Pro Lite is for people looking to learn or advance a skill — so it includes all courses and most skill paths.

Pro is for those looking to start or advance their career — so it includes everything in Pro Lite, plus career paths and interview prep skill paths.

Codecademy also offers a well-recognized certificate to their student after they finish a course.

4. Freecodecamp

As the name says, Freecodecamp is a non-profit organization that provides a competent website for beginners as well as intermediate to learn to code for free. 

Freecodecamp has different resources you can use to learn how to code. Through their website, they provide a systematic way to start coding from the basic to the advanced stage. They also have thousands of YouTube videos you can learn from.

5. Udemy

Udemy is an online video tutorial website where people learn how to code. It offers both free and paid courses.

With Udemy Business, organizations can solve their biggest workforce challenges by using Udemy courses to train their employees

Thousands of coding video courses are published on the website to help people start to code at no cost.

There are different ways to learn to code for free. All the websites I mentioned above offer free coding skills to people. They do so differently. Some like W3schools and Sololearn offer both tutorials and a code editor so you can write your code online while others only offer video tutorials. It is left to you now to choose the best one you want to go with.
